Sensei -- Michael Drewniany
Just like many of his current students, Sensei Mike started out his training as a little 4 year old student running around the mat of his first karate school. He immediately fell in love with martial arts and practiced constantly, always observing his senior students. Even at a young age, Sensei was already given the opportunity to help teach students in his own class. As a blue belt, Sensei Mike's karate school received a new instructor, and that was Sifu John. Even though Sifu was tough, Sensei loved his classes and developed an admiration for his teacher. At the age of 9, Sensei Mike earned his first black belt.

During these early years, Sensei Mike also began training in Judo and Shotokan Karate. As a young black belt, Sensei competed and won in many local and regional tournaments in forms and sparring. In 1993, he began training in Tae Kwon Do and earned his second black belt 4 years later. It was also during this time that Twin Dragon Academy was starting to come to life inside Sifu John's garage. Sensei Mike and a small group of dedicated students began training under Sifu inside his two car garage, bearing the name Twin Dragon on the back of their uniforms.

an 1998, while in high school, Sensei Mike began officially teaching his own Pee Wee and Junior class at a local martial arts school. It was here he found his talent and calling as a children's martial arts instructor. He appreciated the everyday challenges that a group of 4, 5 and 6 year old students could bring on a daily basis. Sensei realized the impact he had on his students and felt that besides teaching them how to kick and punch, he wanted to have a positive influence on their lives. He wanted to develop better self esteem and increase confidence so that his students could feel like they could accomplish anything. He wanted them to physically see the benefits of working hard by helping them achieve goals. He wanted to teach them the importance of discipline, respect, honesty, courtesy, patience, perseverance and hard work. Bottom line, besides turning them into amazing martial artists, he wanted to turn his students into good people.

In 2000, Sensei Mike graduated from high school and began his higher education studies at Santa Clara University. In September of 2001, Sensei Mike made his dream a reality by opening up Twin Dragon Kung fu Academy with Sifu John. At the age of 19, Sensei Mike owned a business, was going to school full time, teaching classes full time and handled many of the office duties required to run a business. In 2004, he graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor's in Marketing and already had a lot of real life entrepreneurial experience.

Besides teaching at Twin Dragon, Sensei Mike has also taught classes and enrichment programs at many schools in San Carlos; taught Self Defense classes for Boy's and Girl Scouts; run Summer, Winter and Spring Break Camps; was volunteer physical activities coordinator for Drug Free America in local San Carlos schools; held martial art theme birthday parties; and currently he is teaching a Tiger Tots program for the Peninsula Jewish Community Center in Foster City.

Recently, Sensei Mike has been training in Muay Thai Kickboxing and preparing to fight in full contact competitions. With great success with Twin Dragon, Sensei Mike has also concentrated on training his assistant instructors the fine subtleties of teaching younger students.
